The Alaska Trucking Association has been serving the transportation industry in Alaska for 51 years.  ATA’s members transport 90% of the shipments that travel on Alaska’s highways each day.  Our membership extends from Barrow to Ketchikan, ranges from the self employed owner operator to the largest multi-modal transporters and everything in-between.

Facts about Trucking in Alaska

ü  Trucking employs over 32,924 people in Alaska, 1 out of every 9 workers.

ü  Trucking pays over 1 billion dollars in wages annually.

ü  Trucks move more than 34,725 tons of freight each business day of essential goods such as clothing, electronics, food and household necessities.

ü  Many Alaskan communities depend exclusively on trucking to supply their goods.

ü  Over 85% of freight for our state enters through the Port of Anchorage, trucking delivers over 90% of that freight.

ü  Inspections of commercial vehicles have increased 460% from 1997-2006, the violation rate has dropped over 35%.

ü  Alaska truck operators pay $115.1 million annually in state and federal taxes and fees, this equates to $2.2 million weekly.
