A driver wishing to easily pass through a weigh station will need:
· A current drivers license, appropriate to the type of vehicle being driven CFR 49 § 383.91
· A current medical card CFR 49 § 391.41
· Proof of insurance AS 19.10.300(e)
· Current vehicle registration AS 28.10.081(b)
· An Hours of Service Log Book filled out properly if:
o The vehicle is being driven outside of a 100 mile air-radius from the dispatch location
o The driver will be driving over 12 hours a day
o The driver will be unable to return to dispatch location on the same day CFR 49 § 395.8
· A Drivers Daily Inspection Log Book. Drivers must perform a visual walk around inspection at the beginning of their shift and fill out the written inspection log at the end of their shift. If a defect is found both the mechanic and driver must sign off that it has been corrected before the vehicle is to be put into service again CFR 49 § 396.13
· Each vehicle (tractor and trailer) must have an annual inspection preformed and either have a legible inspection sticker on the passenger side or a copy of the written inspection report available for review CFR 49 § 396.17
· Each driver is required to have received a copy of the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Regulations Handbooks, it is recommended that this be kept in the truck with the driver CFR 49 § 390.5
· Vehicles must be marked with the company name and USDOT number in a size legible from 50 feet CFR 49 § 390.21
Although not required to be carried in the truck with the driver the company will also need:
· Driver Qualification Files for all driver CFR 49 §391.51
· Maintenance files for all equipment showing all services performed on that equipment CFR 49 § 396.3
