More Than 60 Years of Driving Alaska Forward

The Alaska Trucking Association (ATA) has proudly served the Alaska trucking community for more than 60 years—advocating for the transportation industry even before Alaska became a state. Founded in 1958 under the leadership of Eugene Rogge, our mission has remained clear: to foster and promote the interests of the trucking industry in Alaska.

We pursue this mission by:

  • Positively influencing government and regulatory agencies

  • Promoting highway and driver safety

  • Assisting member companies in managing change

  • Enhancing the public image of the industry

  • Providing education through seminars, training, and conferences

As a member-based organization, ATA offers services that support the day-to-day operations of our members—because trucking truly moves Alaska's economy. In many rural and remote communities, trucks are the sole means of delivering essential goods. ATA helps member companies navigate the complex political, regulatory, educational, and logistical challenges that come with serving our vast state.

Our members come from diverse backgrounds, and our dedicated team—many of whom are seasoned "sourdoughs" with firsthand industry experience—are here to provide knowledgeable support and solutions.

As you explore our history, we hope it inspires you to reflect on your own memories with the ATA. From the very beginning, our vision was rooted in supporting and growing the industry through decades of transformation—technological leaps, cultural shifts, and operational advancements.

Consider the evolution of communication alone: in 1958, it was pay phones and rotary dials; today, smartphones and GPS have revolutionized how we operate. And through it all, ATA has continued to adapt, grow, and lead.

Some milestones from the past 60+ years:

  • 58 Board Presidents

  • 6 Executive Directors

  • 19 State Truck Driving Championships

  • Over 150 issues of the Alaska Trucker magazine

  • And one iconic home base on Minnesota Drive—built in 1970 when we really were at the end of the road. You could say, we've always been paving the way.

Here’s to the next 60 years of progress, advocacy, and keeping Alaska moving.
